Hi Will,

Will the presentation be made available here?

Thanks for the session, the tooling looks quite interesting. It would also be great to have a more hands-on like presentation where a part of a migration is shown.

Hey Ulf - sorry about that - slides available now. I will make sure Todd sees your comments. Thanks

Great presentation. I'm a little unclear on something though. In order to use the migration tool do you need to buy a license to HATS or does this come with the license to EGL? Also, is this tool ultimately going to be IBM's replacement to Webfacing?

The approach to modernization that Todd presented yesterday involves migrating code (RPG and/or DDS) to EGL and EGL Rich UI. This is a different approach than HATS takes (HATS simply transforms the 5250 data stream into HTML and/or Web services, without touching the underlying source code).

Rational Migration Extension for IBM i (RMEi) is the name of the offering from IBM that takes code and migrates it to EGL.

RMEi is not a replacement for HATS/WebFacing, but is a better long term solution for modernization on IBM i since it does more than just give applications a new look; it moves them into a language that offers greater flexibility - in terms of being able to deploy the same code in multiple places. EGL also offers capabilities, such as creation of services, not available in RPG today.

Thanks Will. One more thing. I presume there is an additional charge to get RMEi. Is that true?

Yes, RMEi is a separately priced offering. Contact Todd for details.
