Introduction

HATS provides the tool to quickly expose existing business logic contained in 3270 and 5250 green screen applications as industry-standard Web services. These services can be consumed by any client capable of consuming SOAP services, including EGL Rich UI applications or EGL JSF Web applications.

One recommended approach for modernizing existing user interface applications is to expose key processes as services using HATS and then build a new user interface using EGL Rich UI, all without any impact to the existing applications or code. Over time, you can consider replacing some or all of your HATS services with other types of services (CICS Web services, EGL services, and more) with minimal changes to your new user interfaces. This is an ideal way to quickly deliver new solutions to your users and customers that reuse your proven business logic.
