As some of you may know, in V6R1, the SQL precompiler was enhanced to support variable scoping. You no longer have to have unique variable names in the entire source or have to follow special rules to have a duplicated name accepted by the precompiler. The variables are now scoped to the RPG procedures and work as you would expect.

I have some wonderful new for those of you who are on V5R4 and would like to have variable scoping too. I just released three PTFs that will give you this support. These PTFs will also allow you to precompile to a previous release and it will still allow the duplicated names.

The PTFs are for product 5722SS1: SI34160 and SI34161 and product 5722ST1: SI34384.
