X-Analysis is the key first step as stated in IBM's Enterprise Modernization Strategy. The primary focus of the tool is in analysis, design recovery and modernization for RPG and COBOL applications running on system i. The modernization add-ons cover both database and application modernization. Application modernization options include refactoring of business rules from monolithic RPG into reusable service programs, JSF/Java bean conversion and JSF/EGL Controller bean for MVC, conversion from legacy 5250, and RPG and COBOL to EGL conversion. Analysis and documentation for Java and VB add-on systems is also available for integrated environments.

X-Analysis integrates with WDSc, RDi, RDi SOA, RAD, RSA, RDA and RSM, and has the Ready-for-Rational-Software Certification with a best practices rating.

X-Analysis is used by a number of global consulting firms for system i maintenance, development and modernization work. IBM Rochester use X-Analysis for TRB's using their own copy, and have also written an IBM Redbook on using X-Analysis for modernization. A functional version is available for use in IBM's Sandbox for i, and downloads to run your own system for 30 day trials are also available.
