Overview:

Since 1996, Synchrony Systems has been the leading IBM business partner providing state-of-the-art software and services for analyzing, modernizing and evolving large scale, mission critical Smalltalk applications to modern software platforms and architectures. The company has reached its acclaim by providing a comprehensive modernization platform known as SMT that manages the entire application migration and modernization lifecycle, enabling development and modernization activities to run in parallel.

In 2007 IBM has has added to its RBD application stack another language - EGL in order to bridge a large gap between true monolithic legacy applications such as the ones written in COBOL, RGP or ADABAS/Natural with today's modern, multi-tier Web architectures. Synchrony saw a unique opportunity to apply and adopt its technology and expertise to help customers retain their investments by web-enabling and SOA enabling their legacy applications in the modern RBD/EGL environment.

Synchrony's TUI Transformation Technology (T3) is one of the few software technologies of its class. It has two major components:

1. Green Screen User Interface Facelift - This ruled-driven technology produces a native JSF/Rich UI screen layout without any intermediate middleware
2. SOA Enablement - This rule-driven technology separates business logic from the presentation and turns a monolothic application into a multi-tier web-based, distributed application architecture.

We've taken what we've learned from our Smalltalk modernization experience and applied the same principles to EGL. This solution also supports end-to-end application migration and modernization lifecycle. Starting from an in-depth application analysis and project estimation to the final modernization delivery, T3 supports the entire modernization process, enabling to completely coexist with ongoing development. Much of the tedium and complexity inherent in application modernization is completely automated by T3; the remaining effort is driven by an interactive and rich front-end IDE to diagnose and customize application specific modernization challenges.
