What is CICS?
CICS (Customer Information Control System) is the worlds favorite online transaction processing platform (OLTP) from IBM that, together with the COBOL programming language, has formed over the past several decades the most common set of tools for building customer transaction applications in the world of large enterprise mainframe computing. A large number of "legacy" applications still in use are COBOL/CICS applications, with customers having an enormous inventory of CICS programs (estimated to be trillions of dollars in value). Many of the world's largest enterprises continue to develop and enhance CICS applications.
