Of course, we are very proud that the new list for TOP500 computers has been released here at SC08 on Tuesday at an evening BOF.

This is the list of the fastest supercomputers in the world. IBM's Roadrunner has been on this list for some time.

The rumor before the conference was whether Oakridge's Cray Jaguar would catch a RoadRunner. Now we know that a Jaguar is not faster then a RoadRunner.

Also of importance in today's energy conscious world, is that IBM's RoadRunner is also #3 on the TOP500 GREEN list of supercomputers:

I read an interesting article titled “IBM Burns Through Record Book With 9th Straight No.1 Showing Atop World Supercomputer List” at http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Ibm-NYSE-IBM-921331.html . It contains good information on IBM’s achievement in the world’s TOP500 list of Supercomputers (http://www.top500.org)

Here are some interesting facts from the article:

This is a record-setting ninth consecutive time that IBM took the No. 1 position on the TOP500 list. Roadrunner is not only the world’s fastest supercomputer it is also one of the world’s greenest. It currently ranks No. 3 in the Green500 List (http://www.green500.org) and consumes roughly half the electricity as Jaguar, the No. 2 ranked system on the Top500 list. Besides delivering the world’s fastest supercomputers, IBM is also the leader in delivering energy-smart systems. Currently all of the top 10, and 76 of the top 100 systems on the Green500 list are built by IBM.

I believe the MFLOPS/watt score will gain more attention as we move forward.
